George Merrick is widely celebrated for his positive self-confidence and optimism. However, a recently discovered handwritten letter to his father, from his early twenties, reveals a more introspective and darker side to his character that challenges conventional perceptions. By raising perhaps more questions than answers, this exhibition anticipates a more nuanced portrait of George Merrick.​​​

"Greetings From Paradise"

Celebrate the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce and the City of Coral Gables’ 100th anniversary at the Chamber’s Grand Centennial Gala at the Actors Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. The celebration will feature the original play “Greetings from Paradise” written by June Thomson Morris, of early Miami and George Merrick. The play will run four nights premiering April 29, 2025. The gala takes place on opening night and will include a VIP dinner along Miracle Mile with celebrity chefs. Gala details to come soon!

The “A Gables Fourth” Celebration and Fireworks Extravaganza will take place at the iconic Biltmore Hotel, located at 1200 Anastasia Ave. The festive, family-friendly event, co-hosted in partnership by the City of Coral Gables and the Biltmore Hotel, will mark the anniversary of the country's independence and the city’s centennial anniversary with colorful fireworks displays and live music.
